Concord, North Carolina: The tidiest racer in all of Dirt Late Model, racer Rick Eckert broke his World of Outlaws Charlotte spell and recorded his first-ever win at the Dirt Track at Charlotte last Wednesday night, at the dirt track located, well, at Charlotte, North Carolina, of course. Eckert won this one the hard way, breaking a drive shaft during hot laps, quickly fixing his car, and returning to the track in time to qualify ninth for the feature. Shown in this image, Eckert is beneath his car, working with his crew, to repair it for qualifying. It took Eckert more than 30 laps to work his way to the front, where he then held off all challengers to the checkered flag.
Having an unusually difficult and dry season in 2012, this is now Eckert’s fifth win in World of Outlaws, and his third Dirt Late Model win in a row. Eckert earned first place in World of Outlaws competition just a few days earlier at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park, in Elbridge, New York, and took another win at an unsanctioned race at Selinsgrove Speedway, in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.
Eckert, the defending champion in the World of Outlaws series, currently sits second in the 2013 points, with only the three-night, three-race World of Outlaws World Finals remaining on the calendar, November 1-3, at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
